COVID-19 stands for Corona Virus Disease 19. Corona virus is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-COV2).
COVID 19 is thought to have an animal origin but gets into humans through spillover infection. COVID 19 was first identified in 2019 in Wuhan (China) from where it is spreading globally.
